Starting position

The client — an individual trader in the EU — sold USDT via a Binance P2P trade. The buyer paid with funds that had previously moved through several wallets tagged "mixer-output" by chain-analysis providers. Within an hour of receiving the USDT, Binance:

  • froze withdrawals and P2P functionality
  • requested a fresh KYC
  • sent the standard "Suspicious activity detected" letter
  • gave 7 days to respond

What we did

The Kbetix Forensics team split the work into four blocks aligned with the Binance Compliance workflow.

  1. Transaction audit (day 1–2). Pulled 12 prior hops of on-chain history for the USDT, identified the last "clean" source and established the client's role as a good-faith acquirer.
  2. Source-of-Funds pack (day 3–6). Collected 18 months of bank statements, transaction documents, buyer correspondence and screenshots of the P2P ad. Built a 14-page narrative.
  3. Compliance dialogue (day 7–18). Passed two rounds of follow-up questions. On the second one we escalated to senior compliance through a formal request citing internal regulations.
  4. Restrictions lifted (day 19–22). Limits restored, the $87,400 withdrawn to SEPA in two transactions, no follow-up queries.

Outcome

Full account unfreeze in 22 days with zero losses. The client received a final report with response templates so they can react to Binance requests within the first 24 hours during future P2P trades — that alone significantly reduces the chance of escalation.

What we learned

Response speed to Binance's first letter is critical: replying with documents within the first 24 hours usually blocks automatic escalation to the second compliance tier. Most rejections come not from "dirty" sources but from client silence and template responses.
